Diphyllobothriasis is an endemic helminthiasis both in the Arkhangelsk Region as a whole and in its Arctic territories. In addition, it is one of the most common biohelminthiases in the region. The maintenance of extensive foci of diphyllobothriasis in the Arkhangelsk region is facilitated by such factors as the presence of a large number of fishing reservoirs, as well as the food traditions of the population of consuming insufficiently disinfected river fish and caviar. Adults and adolescents predominate among the infected. Due to incomplete medical history, underestimation of laboratory test data, and the absence of clinical manifestations in the first months after invasion, the diagnosis of diphyllobothriasis and the amount of required medical care may be established late. In the Arkhangelsk Region, the incidence of diphyllobothriasis is significantly lower than the Russian average.
