Despite what the majority of individuals perceive, agriculture in the modern era is data-centric, precise, and better than ever before. The rapid advancement of Internet-of-Things (IoT) technology has revitalized nearly every industry, moving it away from statistical to quantitative solutions. These developments are changing traditional agriculture methods and thus creating new challenges. The IoT has introduced intriguing innovations into the agricultural sector. Its introduction boosts yield from agriculture and also improves crop quality, lowers labor costs, raises farmer income, and truly realizes the advancement of agriculture and intellect. This paper presents an orderly overview of the studies examining the current state of IoT in agriculture. The outcome of the paper is to explore the modernization in agriculture via IoT. Initially, it explores the current state of agriculture, and the IoT component's role in the system's architecture is laid out. Further, it explores various challenges in the implementation of IoT and its applications. The current issues in farming are analyzed, and a prediction for farming IoT's potential growth is provided. Finally, it presents a few case studies depicting IoT use in agriculture and its role in modern agriculture.
