In today's fast-paced world, Internet of Things (IoT) plays a crucial role in simplifying life. According to FSSAI, 1/3rd of all food in India is wasted, on the other hand UNO states that around 16.3% of Indians are undernourished. The existing solutions rely on manual assessments. The smart rice bin aims to collect the good quality cooked rice with automated lid mechanism using sensors and IoT technology assessing the rice quality with moisture sensor readings. If the moisture is less than the 800 wfv (water fraction by volume) the lid of the bin opens indicating good quality rice otherwise it remains closed. It periodically checks the level and quality of rice in the bin and sends alert to authorities when the bin is full or rice is spoiled. The collected rice is then donated to the needy ensuring good quality food donation and saves time and can significantly reduce food wastage. The smart rice bin collects quality food from donors facilitating edible food donation for the needy.
