Age-related decline in physical functioning has significant implications for health in later life but declines begin earlier in midlife. Physical activity (PA) volume is associated with physical function, but the importance of the pattern in which PA is accumulated is unclear. This study investigates associations between patterns of PA accumulation, including the composition, variation, and temporal distribution of upright and stepping events, with physical function in midlife.
