In the ever-evolving landscape of medicine, particularly in oncology, the significance of anaesthesia and perioperative medicine cannot be overstated. Within this context, the Journal of Onco-Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (JOAPM) emerges as a beacon of knowledge, spearheading advancements in the field. Society of Oncoanaesthesia and Perioperative Care (SOAPC) was founded in May 2018 to promote academic and research activities in the field of onco-anaesthesia and perioperative care and create awareness. The role of anaesthesiologists as perioperative clinicians in improving cancer outcomes goes beyond providing perioperative care for oncological patients during their surgical journey.[1] There is a dearth of prospective clinical studies to resolve issues such as the influence of the type of anaesthesia on cancer recurrence and clinical outcomes.[2] From its inception, SOAPC has been keen to establish JOAPM, which will have a set of clear objectives; foremost among these is the dissemination of high-quality research and clinical insights that will enhance patient care in the oncological setting. Recognising the unique challenges posed by cancer surgeries and interventions, our mission extends beyond mere publication to fostering a culture of excellence in onco-anaesthesiology and perioperative medicine. The medical practice is primarily evidence based, and new evidence is emerging in perioperative medicine. This requires a dedicated journal for onco-anaesthesiology and perioperative medicine.[3] Central to our vision is recognising that collaboration and multidisciplinary approaches are essential for progress in this complex field. JOAPM is a platform for dialogue and exchange among clinicians, researchers and allied healthcare professionals, facilitating the cross-pollination of ideas and innovations. By bridging the gap between basic science and clinical practice, we aim to translate cutting-edge discoveries into tangible improvements in patient outcomes. In conclusion, the journey of JOAPM reflects the collective efforts of a community united by a shared vision of excellence in oncological anaesthesia. As we continue to grow and evolve, guided by our objectives, mission and unwavering dedication, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing the frontiers of knowledge and improving the lives of cancer patients worldwide.
