A series of Pd/xP-Al2O3 catalysts of diverse P loading were synthesized in plain way. The catalytic oxidation performance of methane was tested under simulated emission conditions. It was revealed that the incorporation of P content significantly enhanced the CH4 combustion activity over the Pd/xP-Al2O3 catalyst. By the employment of H2-TPR and NH3-TPD, it is found that the activity of Al2O3 catalysts is essentially influenced by their acidity, which stems from the phosphorus doping on methane oxidation. In a typical reaction, Pd/5P-Al2O3 showed the best methane conversion efficiency; meanwhile, the ratio of PdO/Pd0 has higher level. It was proved through experiments that the reason influencing the activity difference was the content of PdO which played a promoting role in the reaction.
