China is exploring a path to achieve high-quality economic development along with resource and7)environmental protection, the research on green total factor productivity (GTFP) of road transportation is of great significance. The purpose of this study is to construct an evaluation index system to research on the GTFP of road transportation industry in western China. A Global Malmquist-Luenberger Index Model is used to measure and decompose the GTFP of road transportation industry in western China. A Tobit regression model is constructed to analyze the external influences. Through a Tobit regression analysis, this study finds that the economic development level, the scientific and technological level and the investment in education have catalytic effects on GTFP growth. The level of external openness, industrial structure, and environmental regulation have inhibiting effects on GTFP growth. Based on these analytical results, this study proposes some effective suggestions to improve GTFP by optimizing resource allocation, upgrading industrial structure and layout and cultivating talents.
