Thermal spraying, a surface modification process was used to get Inconel718 and carbon nanotube reinforced Inconel718 coatings on T -ll boiler steel. The coatings were characterized by metallography, porosity assessment, SEM, and EDAX. The microhardness of the coating was analysed at different cross-section positions. Inconel718 is Nickel and Chromium rich alloy coating powder used for protecting the metals from corrosion. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are very light in weight and have exceptional properties like high tensile strength and great chemical inertness. CNTs therefore are used as reinforcement material to enhance the coating's corrosion resistance in high temperature environments. This innovation can potentially improve the working life of the boiler steels under severe corrosion degradation conditions and save the economy. This paper discusses the method of preparation of the alloy powder coatings and the coating characterization.
