This paper uses a self-built corpus to compare the differences in the English language published by Chinese researchers in the top petroleum journal. The research shows that the proportion of hedges used by Chinese scholars is slightly lower than that of local language scholars.Chinese scholars use the most hedges in the introduction part and the experimental part; local language scholars use the most hedges in the discussion part, the second part, and the experimental part is the least. The proportion of the four minor hedges used by Chinese scholars is only higher than that of native scholars, and the frequency of the three types of adaptors, rounders and attribute shields is lower than that of native scholars. The hedges with the highest frequency used by the two types of scholars overlaps, but some words are significantly different in frequency and usage.Chinese scholars also have problems such as misuse and cross-language use.
