This study took a city in Northeast China as a case, employing questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to explore the current situation of in-service training for primary school English teachers and its impact on their professional development. The results indicate that most teachers hold a positive attitude towards in-service training, which is basically flexible in form and rich in content. However, it was revealed that the current training needs to lay more emphasis on teaching evaluation. Furthermore, the impact of in-service training on the professional development of primary school English teachers is mainly reflected in 1) enhancing teaching skills and teaching quality; 2) deepening the understanding and assimilation of educational policies and documents; 3) fostering research literacy and professional identity. Based on the findings, this paper offers suggestions for future in-service training of primary schoolEnglish teachers and provides new perspectives for future research in this field.
