A planar wideband substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed slot antenna featuring a shorting metallic strip is presented in this paper. This antenna is simple and offers large-frequency coverage. Owing to the strong loading impact of the slot with metallic strip and employing the offset feeding technique, the proposed antenna perturbs the cavity modes of TE320 and TE330. This perturbation leads to the generation of a hybrid mode by merging these modes nearby, thereby achieving a wideband response. The suggested antenna is specifically made to resonate in the Ku band (12–18 GHz), exhibiting resonance at 14.54 GHz with a fractional bandwidth of 19.96% (frequency range varying from 13.71 to 16.75 GHz) and achieving a strong gain of 8.98 dBi. The simulated results also demonstrate that the suggested design has exceptional unidirectional radiation, which makes it a great choice for high-speed wireless communication systems operating in the Ku band.
