Speech is the most natural and efficient means of human communication. However, auditory and articulation challenges resulting from conditions such as sensorineural hearing loss, stroke, and cerebral palsy can significantly impede effective speech communication. While various assistive devices, including hearing aids, cochlear implants, and communication boards, have been developed to improve communication, there is still room for improvement. In this presentation, I will demonstrate how AI-based signal-processing methods can enhance the effectiveness of these devices. Specifically, we have developed several speech signal processing architectures utilizing AI technology to enhance communication outcomes for users. Experimental results indicate the potential of implementing these algorithms in assistive devices to augment communication capabilities.
