Oral cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths in Taiwan.Oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC) constitutes more than 90% of all oral cavity cancers and is a locally destructive disease with a high local recurrence rate.Treatment options for recurrent oral cancer are often limited and usually confer negative physiological and psychological impacts on patients and their families.Radical surgery remains the standard of care for patients with resectable OSCC.Adjuvant chemoradiotherapy are offered for patients with high risk features such as positive margins and extracapsular nodal extension. The Taiwan Cancer Registry(TCR)database, established by the Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan, began data collection since 1979 from patients with newly diagnosed cancer in hospitals with 50 or more beds in Taiwan.Furthermore, detailed information on the pathological information, tumor markers, and other clinical data related to patient care were included in the database since 2011.Until now, this database has captured an estimated 98% of newly diagnosed OSCC cases. In this talk, I'll review the TCR database and compare the survival data with the SEER database.I'll also share the experience from the National Taiwan University Hospital and provide the treatment outcomes and prognosticators of OSCC in Taiwan.
