Abstract The issue of rising energy demand can be mitigated through the use of distributed generating without requiring an expansion of the transmission and distribution network. The transformation of distributed networks from passive to active has occurred because of increased penetration of distributed generation on low voltage feeders. This penetration also compromises the power quality of the system and gives rise to a number of issues, including voltage fluctuations and current swings that exceed the nominal value. This paper utilizes the Power World Simulator (PWS) to investigate the effects of hybrid renewable energy which is combination of wind and solar, on medium voltage feeder voltages through a case study of a 32-bus radial feeder network. Genetic Algorithm were used for finding of optimum value of distribution generation. Additionally, it is recommended to consider the maximum generation penetration without exceeding the nominal voltage restrictions of the feeder. As a result, the voltage drops and line losses were reduced.
