Introduction The use of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has gained importance in the treatment of recurrent and metastatic thyroid cancer (TC) by EMA approval of the multi-TKIs Lenvatinib and Sorafenib for radioiodinerefractory differentiated TC and Cabozantinib for medullary TC (MTC). In addition, next-generation sequencing (NGS) often uncovers mutations that are targetable by TKIs (e.g. BRAF/RET mutations). The trade-off between a wait-and-see approach and the initiation of systemic therapy is a challenge in a tumor entity with divergent growth behavior.
