Background OPSCC may arise from lymphoepithelial tissue of the tonsil (TSCC) and base of tongue (BOTSCC), while others arise from the mucosa of the soft palate or the oropharnygeal wall. OPSCC are further differentiated by the underlying pathophysiology, most notably HPV-status, as assessed by p16-staining. Here, we examine the influence of subsite and p16-status as well as smoking and alcohol consumption on survival in OPSCC patients.
