In vitro study demonstrates fluid leakage rates between outer and inner cannulas in dual tracheostomy tubes, highlighting airway protection limits in patients with aspiration risks.
Introduction Multifunctional cannulas have several features and can be customised depending on the situation by means of fenestration on the outer cannula and the insertion of a screened or closed inner cannula. This enables patients with aspiration tendencies to have lung protection and temporary oral communication. This paper deals with the measurement and determination of the leakage rate between the outer and inner cannula.
