Abstract Background In this study, the changes caused by local and systemic inflammatory and immunological reactions and oxidative stress in the levels of some biomarkers and parameters in the gingival crevicular fluid and blood in periodontal tissue inflammation in dogs were investigated. Moreover the effects of the treatment protocols applied to the patients on these changes were evaluated. The dogs used in the study were grouped as follows: healthy control group (NC), group in which local clinoptilolite was applied in the treatment (C), group in which amoxicillin- clavulonic acid, clinoptilolite and chlorhexidine were used together in the treatment (ACC), group in which amoxicillin-clavulonic acid and clinoptilolite were applied together in the treatment ( AC) and the group (A) in which amoxicillin-clavulanic acid was applied in the treatment. Results According to the analysis results, the increase in the total antioxidant capacity measurement level was found to be significant between days 0 and 7 in all groups except the NC group. The decrease in TOS level between days 0 and 7 was found to be significant in all groups. The decrease in MDA level was significant between days 0 and 7 in all groups except the NC group. It was observed that the IL-1B level between days 0 and 7 showed a substantial decrease in the ACC and AC groups and that the MMP9 and osteocalcin levels decreased significantly between days 0 and 7 in groups C and AC. Conclusions Evaluating the treatment protocols applied in the study, observations regarding clinical improvement and changes in the levels of various biomarkers and parameters in the GCF and blood samples were considered. Accordingly, it was concluded that applying amoxicillin-clavulanic acid and clinoptilolite in dogs with periodontal tissue inflammation was more successful than other treatment protocols.
