It has been established that there are indications for preserving the great saphenous vein (GSV) in the treatment of varicose veins (VVs) by limiting the procedure to the removal of varicose tributaries (VTs), according to the principles of the ambulatory selective varicose vein ablation under local anesthesia (ASVAL) method. However, the criteria for selecting the proper indications are not yet clearly identified. We wanted to clarify these criteria by collating all those that had been published and integrating them into our database, to systematically incorporate them into our current practice.
