A CubeSat is a class of satellite that follows a standardized size and shape known as a 'U'. Specifically, a 1U CubeSat is a 10 cm cube with a maximum weight of 2 kg. CubeSats provide affordable access to space for small companies, research institutes and universities. They are mainly launched into low Earth orbit for applications such as remote sensing, space weather measurements and communications. Many educational CubeSat based projects have been created for research purposes and education in institutes and universities. In this way, the IEEE-GRSS via the IEEE-MENA region supported some chapters to acquire CubeSat to provide scientific community with educational tool permitting to train, develop and test space technology activities on ground. The IEEE-GRSS Algeria chapter has started exploiting the different functionalities of the CubeSat from its control in the earth segment to the space via its communication system. The cube sat components have been successfully assembled, set up and putted into operation. Many simulations using a laptop endowed with ground segment software have been tested and resulted in a complete handling of the Educational SATellite (ESAT). The chapter team responsible of the system, has also created educational and industrial partnerships to share knowledge to understand well ESAT functionalities and try to develop other elements for further applications.
