A flexible terahertz metamaterial absorber for sensing applications is proposed to enhance the molecular fingerprinting of trace substances. The finite element method was utilized to analyze the electromagnetic characteristics, physical mechanisms, and detection capabilities of the structure. The designed structure shows a narrow-band absorption peak at 2.491 THz with a Q-factor value of 30 and a refractive index sensitivity of 656 GHz/RIU, which provides excellent frequency resolution and detection sensitivity. Moreover, sample preprocessing time can be reduced significantly using this sensor, and terahertz wave-substance interactions can be enhanced.
