Maintaining the life of Molobicus tilapia in a high-density recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) requires the measurement and control of important water quality parameters like pH, temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen. Manual measurements of these pertinent parameters are laborious, repetitive, and prone to human error. To address these concerns, automation and internet of things (IoT) technologies were employed. The prototype developed in this paper automatically monitors and controls the water quality parameters of a Molobicus tilapia RAS in the Philippines. Measurements can be viewed on any device connected to the internet via a web app. Reactions are also expected from the control panel depending on the water quality parameter measurements. The successful performance of the developed and deployed prototype is discussed, and issues between the manual and automatic measurements of the water quality parameters are explored.
