Arrays with dual-polarized response are in urgent need of development to enhance the practicability in radar and communication systems. In this letter, a dual-polarized reconfigurable reflectarray (DPRRA) with wide-angle beamscanning capability is proposed, which employs a novel rudderwheel (WR) shaped element with a low profile (0.052λ0 at 5.15 GHz) integrated low-cost PIN diodes as a 1-bit phase shifter. The inverse alignment of the PIN diodes in the x- and y-directions allows the two polarization operating mechanisms to share a common bias network, greatly simplifying the design complexity and cost of active reconfigurable metasurfaces. A 10×10-elements RRA is designed, fabricated and measured. Measured results indicate that the DPRRA can support large beam scan angles from -60° to +60° and 0° to +40° in the xoz and yoz planes, with peak gains of 13.7 dBi and 14.8 dBi, corresponding to aperture efficiencies of 15.8% and 20%.
