Meat and meat byproducts are a rich source of bioactive peptides, which are small protein fragments that possess various biological activities. These peptides are released during digestion or can be obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of meat proteins.Various researches demonstrated that bioactive peptides derived from the above sources have potential health benefits, including antihypertensive, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and antimicrobial activities. These peptides can also improve immune function and aid in the prevention and treatment of various chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and obesity. This paper aims to review the current literature on meat and its byproducts-derived bioactive peptides and their importance on human health, highlighting their potential applications as functional food ingredients and nutraceuticals.
