Most experimental studies on planing hulls have been conducted under steady-state conditions at constant speeds. Performance predictions based on these steady data for the planing crafts in the forward acceleration phase can be accompanied by errors due to the unsteady flow nature and dynamical effects. This study empirically evaluates a planing monohull model during its forward acceleration in calm water and aims to provide a more profound comprehension of associated unsteady flow effects such as added mass. In order to fully comprehend these unsteady effects, one must have an understanding of the vessel's steady-state performance. Therefore, relevant steady-state experiments have also been executed.
