Experimental study demonstrates rapid detection of detergent adulteration in household milk samples, suggesting a viable low-cost quality monitoring solution for consumers.
Milk Adulteration is a global concern even today. The milk processing industries have sophisticated quality detection systems which are bulky, expensive and require an expert to process the data to comment on the type and quantity of adulteration. In India, major portion of the milk production is managed by unorganized sector. Rural households constitute major consumer percentage. The systems available in dairy processing industries are not suitable for individual households. To address this issue, two types of capacitive sensors with rectangular and circular shaped electrodes are fabricated. These sensors offers suitable attributes for individual households like a handy, non-invasive, and costeffective solution for milk quality detection. In this work, different concentrations of detergent-added milk samples are tested experimentally. The proposed system offers instant milk adulteration detection using sample drops of milk which is highly favorable for small consumers like individual households. This system possesses high potential to be realized into a final end-use product. The designed sensors offer highly repeatable response with quite decent sensitivity which makes them suitable for milk quality detection. The repeatability index of circular electrodes and rectangular electrodes is 0.008% and 0.011% respectively ensuring the precision of the sensor.
