Advanced driver assistance system is a device that provides comfortable and safe ride for drivers. It relieves drivers from some of the driving tasks like speed control and safe distance maintenance. The efficiency of the device greatly depends on following strictly the systems' instructions. However, some modern car drivers have taken this system as replacement instead of assistance and they have also violated the instructions of the system by speed violation, not obeying traffic rules, following too-closely (tail-gating) and using the device during rainy condition. There are more than enough available literatures on cruise control but the effects of using it during rainy condition has not been given enough attention. This research work presents the development of an advanced driver assistance system using adaptive cruise control considering the effect of rain.Maintenance of both safe distance and set speed and deactivation of the device during rainy condition are the objectives of this research work so Fuzzy logic controller was adopted and the performance was tested by simulations using MATLAB.Future research could have this implemented practically on vehicle.
