The demonstrations impact of CeO 2 on the radiation shielding properties of SiO 2 –B 2 O 3 –BaO–Li 2 O glasses has been investigated. The observed trend in density ρ ranged from 3.127 to 4.022 g/cm³, whereas the molar volume V m of these glasses decreased. The half-value layers (HVL), and mean free paths (MFP) of CL glasses reinforce the notion that the presence of Ce ions, particularly in CL 2 , enhances the ability of glasses’ to attenuate gamma rays. The effective electron density ( N eff ) increases with the addition of CeO 2 , suggesting a correlation between the enhancement of radiation shielding properties and the amount of CeO 2 incorporated into the glasses.
