Laboratory experiment reveals prey species influence Chrysoperla carnea development and reproduction, highlighting predator utility in integrated pest management.
Chrysoperla carnea is an important insect predator which globally have significant role in integrated pest management. The experiment was investigated the biology and life table parameters of predator on four natural preys (namely: Aphis gossypii, A. durantae, Brevicoryne brassicae and Ferrisia virgata) under laboratory conditions. The life table data of predator was analyzed according to the age-stage, two-sex life table method 2023. The results indicated the effect of tested preys on biology of C. carnea. On F. virgata, the development of predatory females and males was recorded the longest one. The longest oviposition period of predator was recorded on A. durantae and B. brassicae. The predatory insect gave the highest reproduction rate when fed on all three tested aphids. Life expectancy for female stage was recorded maximum of (71.0 days) on B. brassicae. This study indicated to ability of predator to overcome on the tested prey which attack several economic vegetable crops and ornamental plants.
