Enhancement is a crucial task for various underwater application, including marine exploration, underwater surveillance and archaeology. The role of enhancement to improving the quality and usability of image captured in aquatic environment. Images captured underwater frequently encounter difficulties due to reduced visibility, diminished contrast, and color distortion resulting from the scattering and attenuation of light. A multitude of algorithm have been devised to enhance the quality of underwater image. The presence of turbulence in underwater environment poses a challenge for many image enhancement algorithms. The existence of turbulence in underwater settings presents a formidable challenge for numerous image enhancement algorithms. Although the image enhancement of underwater scene is still evaluation process, as we proposed the white patch algorithm (WPA) with dark channel prior. The WPA is utilized to correct color distortion and restore natural color appearance by identifying the whitest region in image. Meanwhile, the DCP is employed to estimate the transmission map, which represent the degradation caused by scattering and absorption in water image. The methods effectively give outcome superior performance and quantitative of enhance image.
