One of humanity's greatest handicaps is visual impairment, particularly in this day and age where text communications (electronic and paper-based) dominate communication over voice. 9.3 million Visually impaired people and 2,70,000 blind children live in India, and more than 75% of those problems can be avoided or treated. India- the second most crowded nation is home to a whopping one-third of the world's blind. But, In India, the blind and visually impaired literacy rate is barely 1%, significantly lower than 77.7% of the standard literacy rate. A country that is developing needs its people to be working efficiently and with so many numbers of people unable to perform daily life tasks it would be very difficult for a country to develop. The research aims to develop vision-assist glasses that utilizes the Internet of Things (IOT) to assist blind people in reading and translating English-typed text and providing relevant information via audio feedback using an earphone. The device also assists the user in dealing with real- life problems by identifying and detecting incoming objects and alerting the user via the earphone. The device can capture and process the visual information that normal-sighted people can see and help visually impaired people to understand their environment better and more affordable. The device's voice recognition capabilities are dependent on the services of a processor. A unique voice recognition app that communicates with the device via Bluetooth must be installed on the smartphone. The application will consist of two features that will be Text to Speech mode and Vision to Speech mode. This research is expected to significantly reduce the number of accidents and improve the quality of life for those in needs. Although the existing products have these features however these are limited to a certain range of vision.
