Factorial experiment shows enhanced germination and seedling growth in sorghum cultivars with gibberellic acid, suggesting improved crop performance.
Poor germination is one of the problems facing most field crops including sorghum. A factorial experiment was implemented in the laboratories of the desert studies center, to evaluating the GA 3 influence on sorghum cultivars seeds quality. Two factors was contained this study, the first represented three stimulation concentrations of gibberellic acid (0.5, 1 and 1.5 g L −1 ) in addition to soaking seeds with distilled water (control), whilst the second represented three sorghum cultivars (Wed Ahmed, Babel and Rabeh). A completely randomized design (CRD) with four replicates was utilized. The findings indicated that the soaking seeds with GA 3 significantly excelled on the studied parameters, the soaking seeds at a 1.5 g L −1 achieved the highest averages of germination rate (95.0%), length of radicle, plume length, seedling dry weight (0.287 g) and antioxidants (CAT and SOD). Regarding of sorghum cultivars, they were significantly varied in most of the studied parameters; the cultivar of Rabeh recorded the highest average of seedling fresh weight (2.47 g), while the Babel cultivar had the highest CAT activity (24.26 unit g −1 ). The two studied factors interaction was significantly influence on the most studied parameters.
