Experimental findings explore herbicide absorption and resistance levels across four woody species.
The objective was to delineate reasons for resistance to foliar applications of the herbicides, 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T. The experimental species varied in resistance from susceptible to resistant. Studies utilizing counting, autoradiography and chromatography indicated that resistance by Fraxinus americana L. was associated with poor leaf absorption of 2,4,5-T or the production of unknown #1 from 2,4-D by Acer rubrum L., Liquidambar stryraciflua L., and Liriodendron tulipifera L.
