The study demonstrates predictions of austenite grain size during hot rolling, highlighting the thermomechanical model's role in linking steel properties.
The development of a microstructure evolution model that predicts the recrystallized austenite grain size during hot rolling is discussed. This model, which is capable of predicting the resulting ferrite grain size upon cooling after rolling, has been applied to predict the austenite grain size evolution during structural rolling. Predictions from the model compare favorably with measured data. When this model is combined with a flow stress/roll force and thermal model, the resulting thermomechanical model will provide the link between the steel composition, processing conditions, and the final properties of the rolled product.
