Review highlights recent improvements in fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics for aerospace structures, indicating better life prediction methods.
This paper presents discussion of recent developments in life prediction methods for aerospace structures. The objectives and approaches of technical programs sponsored and directed by the author during the past ten years are presented. The pertinent results of efforts in the areas of fatigue analysis, fracture mechanics and mechanisms for metallic, metal matrix composites and brittle matrix composites are discussed. A brief summary of new and innovative crack measurement and damage detection techniques for fatigue and fracture testing of extreme environment structures is presented.
