Experimental study explores syndesmosis fixation in ankle fractures, suggesting improved outcomes in treatment.
There is a scarcity of data and a lack of agreement in the literature as to the exact mechanism of certain ankle injuries. A number of biomechanical studies concerning ankle injuries have been reported (Amendola, 1992, and Kaye, 1989). However the proper use and position of internal fixation for ankle fractures and/or major bony injury without fracture (soft tissue injury) is as yet not fully described and documented.
