Experimental evaluation shows heat transfer increases with specific additives in LiBr absorbers, suggesting improved efficiency.
An experimental study on heat and mass transfer in a vertical falling film absorber utilizing LiBr/H2O was performed with the presence of additives. A minisorber was designed and constructed to evaluate the performance of various potential additives in the absorber. The minisorber is housed in a glass vessel which allows visualization of the film flow during absorption. Significant enhancement of heat and mass transfer was observed, consistent with what has been reported in the literature. The measured heat transfer coefficient depends strongly on the particular additive. In this paper, the heat transfer coefficient and relevant absorption data are reported. A new additive was proposed and tested. It was found that the best additives cause a vigorous mixing in the liquid film.
