Again on the Textual Enigma of the Abencerraje

This article aims to analyse again the textual tradition of the Abencerraje to draw attention to some textual variants that can help improve our understanding of the transmission of this Moorish novel. Until now, the priority of the text contained in the Villegas’ Inventario (I) or that of the Montemayor’s Diana (D) has been defended based on stylistic or historical criteria. The variants analysed in this article aim to offer a more reliable textual filiation of the different preserved versions of the work.
