Antimicrobial resistance has become a great concern to treat infections caused by multi-drug resistant bacteria worldwide for health care workers and physicians. After the discovery of mcr-1 and its variants in association of carbapenemase producing bacteria, it is becoming difficult to cure such infections. Therefore, in this age emergence of antibiotic resistance, there is utmost need to find an efficient and alternative mode of therapy. Antimicrobial Photodynamic therapy (aPDT) has been proved to be an effective approach to treat infections which are uncurable using antibiotics. Hence, we have developed several aPDT approaches to cure diabetic foot ulcers and other topical infections caused by highly drug resistant bacteria like MRSA and VRSA. We concludes that aPDT is the most effective therapy against infections caused by multi drug resistant bacteria.
