Various methods have been widely used for the prevention of metallic corrosion among which use of natural extracts as Inhibitors is a common technique. The efficiency of these extracts as through electrochemical tests which include techniques such as potentiodynamic polarization and weight loss measurement. The inhibition efficiency of various extracts gives a clear idea to select an extract for inhibition purposes. In this study, Glycyrrhiza glabra root extract ,commonly known as Jethimadh was investigated as green eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor of copper in nitric acid solution using weight loss & polarization techniques. The study was also conducted at different temperature. The results reveal that the corrosion Inhibition efficiency (I.E) of Glycyrrhiza glabra increases as the concentration of inhibitor increases and reached a maximum of 89.73% at 2000 ppm concentration, but the efficiency decreases with increase in temperature. The value of activation energy shows that Jethimadh as a good inhibitor of copper. Also, It obeys Langmuir's adsorption isotherm. The negative value of Qads portrays the spontaneous adsorption of the inhibitor on the copper surface. The Tafel Polarization states it as a mixed type of inhibitor. The results obtained from the weight loss and electrochemical techniques are studied and discussed in the paper.
