The article studies the issues of replenishment of the English terminological system “Experimental musical instruments” using the semantic method of word formation, as a result of which metaphorical terms are formed. The relevance of the study is based on the need to nominate new concepts, replenish and systematize the terminology of the subject area under study. The object of the study is the English term system “Experimental musical instruments”, the subject is metaphors in the names of experimental musical instruments. The purpose of the article is a linguistic analysis of metaphorical terms of the subject area “Experimental musical instruments”. During the study of the material, we used the following research methods: descriptive method, comparative analysis method, quantitative method, component analysis method, word formation analysis method. The research material was metaphorical terms selected by a continuous sampling method from articles, books, dictionaries, including online dictionaries, online musicrelated websites. It is established that the most productive source of metaphorical terms of the studied subject area are artifacts–objects created by man. The article presents a classification of the main thematic groups of metaphors.
