The article examines the interdependence of interpreting and note-taking skills. We consider this aspect to be of a high importance in the formation of the overall translation competence. To study the relationship between consecutive interpretation quality and the ability of an interpreter to take notes efficiently, we conducted a scientific experiment that involved interpreting of two text passages in Russian and English. The main criterion for selecting the texts was the presence of such elements that were supposed to be noted down, namely dates, currencies, countries, links, etc. The results show that the group of respondents who have completed a course of note-taking for interpreters coped with the task better than the other, which suggests ultimate necessity of studying note-taking basics as part of any interpreting course with subsequent development of acquired skills in practice.
