The article studies the nature of the electoral process as a variation of a legal process. The author reviews the correlation between the electoral process and such categories as: electoral relations, electoral law, guarantees of electoral rights, means of protection of electoral rights, electoral system and some other categories. Apart from the characteristic traits intrinsic to the electoral process as any variation of a legal process, the author identifies special aspects that prove its independence: special parties and the stage structure, the dual nature of the procedural form, the dependence from space and time factors, legitimation of voting results and election results through procedures.
