This article is dedicated to the study of the legal essence of reasonableness in relation to the Russian civil procedure law. It is established that reasonableness is the fundamental origin that runs through the entire legal branch. It is determined that the principle of reasonableness is subject to broad interpretation, is applicable to the conduct of all parties to a civil procedure and stipulates a judicial evaluation of case circumstances from the legal as well as the economic standpoint. Besides, the author singles out actual unacceptability of certain grounds for reversal or amendment of judgments in cases on review of an administrative claim for awarding a compensation for a violation of the right to judicial proceedings or performance of a judicial act within a reasonable period of time in the event that such judgments are appealed. The author concludes that the absence of an exhaustive legal definition of reasonableness creates material obstacles in the judgment appeal process.
