Introduction: Inguinal hernia regardless of its type is one of the most common diseases that a surgeon has to manage. The conventional prolene mesh and its fixation with polypropylene suture is well established method in the open inguinal hernia repair. It is associated with certain complication like post operative pain. There are some incidences of inguinodynia noted. Self adhesive pro grip mesh which is recently launched mesh do not require suture for its fixation. The aim of this study to compare the clinical outcome like post operative pain, duration of surgery, hospital stay and post operative complication following suture less self-adhesive pro grip mesh repair to conventional prolene mesh repair with its fixation with polypropylene sutures. The present study is aimed to study the usefulness of the self-adhesive pro grip mesh in reducing the incidence of post operative pain after inguinal hernia repair based on the randomization over a 1-year period of time. This study aims to compare conventional inguinal hernia prolene mesh repair Aim: with selfadhesive pro grip hernia mesh repair in terms of Postoperative pain, duration of surgery which is influenced by the usage of conventional inguinal hernia prolene mesh repair and self-adhesive pro grip hernia is also observed followed by the duration of post-op stay in two subjective groups. And this study also envisions to analyse the cost effectiveness that could be possible between two mesh fixation techniques. The study was a prospective Material and methodology: randomized comparative study. The study collected data from 50 patients who are admitted for unilateral open inguinal hernia repair in the Department of General Surgery, K.E.M. Hospital, Pune. The age group was 18 to 75 years. The duration of study was September 2021 to October 2022. The study approval was obtained from institutional scientific committee and ethical committee. The patients were randomised into Group A(Prolene mesh with 25 patients) and Group B(Self adhesive pro grip mesh with 25 patients). After surgery, Data was collected like post operative pain using objective pain scale, hospital stay and duration of surgery. The most of participants (96%) were mal Results: e. The mean duration time for surgery for self-adhesive pro grip repair is 37.8 min whereas it is 43.40 min for the Prolene mesh repair. Duration of surgery was shorter in the selfadhesive pro grip mesh repair compare to Prolene mesh repair but it is stastically insignificant(p-0.160). In prolene mesh repair, the mean pain score on day of surgery, after 24 hours, on POD 3, on POD 7 and on POD 21, was 5.76, 4.44, 3.76, 2.84 and 2.24 respectively whereas in selfadhesive pro grip mesh repair, the mean pain score on day of surgery, after 24 hours, on POD 3, on POD 7 and on POD 21, was 4.80, 3.48, 2.84, 2.00 and 1.12 respectively. This study shows that there is significant less post operative pain in the pro grip mesh repair group compare to Prolene mesh repair group. This study shows there is no difference in the duration of the hospital stay and post operative complication. There is no need for extra analgesic in the both groups. The self-adhesive mesh is cost effective compare to Prolene mesh by reducing the operative time though it is not statistically insignificant and reducing the post operative pain.
