This article aims to examine the complexities faced by the economies of Santiago (Kingdom of Chile) and the mendosanjuanina region at the end of the eighteenth century, alongside the intense change existing in the Spanish American territories. The economic complementarities that united both economies were prioritized by local interests that sought to achieve greater autonomy for each of the cities within the monarchical group. Our argument is based on the analysis of the customs notes of Buenos Aires and the documentation generated by the Chilean authorities, the agents of Mendoza, and San Juan in the Spanish Court.
