Integration of Ideological and Political Education in Music Appreciation Courses: Fostering Cultural Understanding and Aesthetic Appreciation

This paper explores the integration of ideological and political education in music appreciation courses at a Sino-American joint university. Acknowledging the potential influence of cultural biases, the study aims to guide students in recognizing and appreciating cultural differences through a thoughtful curriculum design. Key elements include historical and cultural contexts of music, values expressed in musical works, and the societal and humanistic aspects of music. The paper proposes practical methods, such as introducing diverse music categories, enhancing in-class participation, ensuring post-class engagement, flexible use of teaching materials, and promoting interdisciplinary connections. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through observed improvements in students' critical thinking, cultural awareness, and overall academic performance.
