Augmented Reality (AR) see-through applications challenge the display design to be bright enough for outdoor use on one hand and with minimal power consumption for prolonged usage on the other hand. Laser-Beam-Scanning (LBS) displays are perfectly suited for this task, utilizing laser brightness. However, lasers are known to be "power-hungry" components of such displays. Maradin presents a novel laser modulation scheme that enables the reduction of laser power consumption for see-through LBS displays, saves up to 70% of laser power, and enables high-resolution use of AR displays for an outdoor all-day application.
