The transvenous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) has been demonstrated to reduce mortality in patients at risk for ventricular arrhythmias1,2. Complications of transvenous ICD implant may include direct cardiac injury, vascular injury or occlusion and mechanical failure of the leads themselves3. Infectious compromise of transvenous ICDs is an additional significant short and long term complication often necessitating system removal and adding to mortality and morbidity of affected patients.
