Key result
EV-ICD successfully manages sensing issues in polymorphic ventricular tachycardia.
Why the study?
Extravascular implantable cardioverter defibrillator (EV-ICD) is a newly FDA-approved alternative to conventional ICDs with potential to minimize complications associated with transvenous leads.
Case Report (n=1)
A case report highlighting the management of sensing issues in a patient implanted with an extravascular implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (EV-ICD).
Extravascular implantable cardioverter defibrillator (EV-ICD) is an alternative to traditional ICD approved by FDA in 2023 [1]. Vascular injury, venous obstruction, systemic lead-related infections, and cardiac perforation are potential complications of conventional ICDs [2] that can be minimized with the EV-ICD. Furthermore, EV-ICD provides antitachycardia pacing capability and demonstrates comparable generator dimensions and battery longevity to conventional transvenous ICDs [3], supporting its use as a viable alternative for patients with an ICD indication who do not require bradycardia pacing.

Knoka et al. (2026) conducted a case report in Polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (n=1). Extravascular and subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (EV-ICD) was evaluated. An extravascular and subcutaneous implantable cardioverter-defibrillator was utilized for the management of sensing issues in a patient with polymorphic ventricular tachycardia.
